Belmont’s chapter of St. Jude Up ‘til Dawn will celebrate the national organization’s recruitment days on Tuesday and Wednesday by offering free food, giveaways, human foosball and more during the week.
Up ‘til Dawn has tables set up around campus Monday through Wednesday to tell people about the event and give out merchandise. The recruitment days culminate with a convocation Wednesday morning and a tailgate Wednesday night.
Starting Tuesday, students can also register for the February event, pledging to raise at least $100 for St. Jude.
Up ‘til Dawn helps college students across the country to raise money and awareness for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which specializes in treating and researching cures for childhood cancer.
Belmont’s chapter has already raised $31,525 for St. Jude this year, and the fundraising will continue until Belmont’s official Up ‘til Dawn event on February 9, according to St. Jude’s website.
“Every time you register, Ni-Q — our sponsor, will donate $2.40 in honor of the $2.4 million it takes to operate St. Jude every day,” said Belmont Up ‘til Dawn’s Chair for Recruitment and Cultivation Danielle Bogie.
Wednesday morning, Up ‘til Dawn is offering a convo about the mission of St. Jude and how Belmont students can get involved, said Bogie.
Recruitment Day activities wrap up Wednesday night with a tailgate kickoff on the South Lawn from 4 to 7 p.m..
Students who register for the February event will get a wristband giving them access to the tailgate, where the leadership board will have free food, music, giveaways and an inflatable human foosball game.
Bogie said students should care about Up ‘til Dawn because it’s a great way to make a tangible difference helping other kids.
“It’s really fun, and while you’re having fun, you’re helping kids with cancer, so what’s better than that,” she said.
