Belmont’s softball team suspended its practice at Rose Park Tuesday at 1:20 p.m. after officials from Rose Park Magnet School notified coaches and players of a shooting in one of the nearby apartment complexes.
Chief of Campus Security Pat Cunningham sent an officer to the scene to determine if there was any threat to the staff and players.
By the time the Campus Security officer arrived, Nashville Metropolitan Police had already cleared the scene and declared it safe.
“There was no ongoing threat,” Cunningham said.
Metro’s Midtown precinct later confirmed with Campus Security the suspect had fled the scene before the Belmont officer arrived.
