Assistant Director of Admissions Jim Poole dies Wednesday morning

Belmont’s Assistant Director of Admissions Jim Poole died Wednesday morning after a battle with cancer.

Poole — a Belmont graduate and member of the admissions office staff since 2001 — was passionate about Belmont and devoted his time to serving the Nashville community.

In addition to his work with prospective transfer students, Poole loved Belmont athletics and served as the chaplain for Belmont’s baseball team. He was honored with the Belmont University Homecoming Spirit Award last winter.

Poole graduated from Belmont in 1967 with a degree in psychology, and health and physical education. He then received a master’s degree in religious education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and a master’s degree in marriage and family counseling from the University of Mobile.

Poole worked as a youth pastor for over 20 years before returning to Belmont to work in the Office of Admissions.

A Belmont University scholarship has been formed in Poole’s honor. You can donate to the Jim Poole Memorial Scholarshiphere.
