Belmont junior Carly DeMartino died May 15 after a 10-year battle with brain cancer, Belmont President Greg Jones said in an email.
DeMartino, a junior public advocacy major and honors student, was known by those around her for her bright smile and thoughtful nature every time she spoke, according to the email.
Outside of Belmont, DeMartino was passionate about her advocacy work and was selected as a National SpokesKid for The Sunshine Kids Foundation, an organization dedicated to children with cancer.
“She's always shows gratitude, even if I did the smallest of favors, she would say ‘thank you.” She's so diligent in what she does, and I always noticed how intentional she was about the things she does,” said coworker Eion Lewis in DeMartino’s tribute book.
DeMartino’s family will host a visitation in Avon, Connecticut for friends and loved ones from 9 a.m. to noon followed by a memorial.
“May her memory be a blessing to all who knew and loved her. She was a remarkable young woman,” Sheila and Alan Gordon said on the tribute board of the obituary.
Belmont Counseling can be reached during hours at 615-460-6856. Counseling resources also can be found on the TimelyCare app which is available 24/7.
