Belmont announces new parking garage and tennis courts

Belmont announced Wednesday it will build a massive new parking garage topped with six tennis courts behind the Trout Theatre and McAfee Concert Hall.

The project will be built by January of 2021, according to a press release.

Along with a 831 capacity garage, there will be six NCAA Division I regulation tennis courts on top of the garage which can be accessed by students and faculty when not being used the Belmont tennis teams.

“This new garage will serve our campus and the broader community well, providing easy access to rehearsal, classroom and practice space in our theaters, concert hall and performing arts center,” said university president Dr. Robert Fisher in a press release. “Plus, the building will serve double duty by bringing the Bruins’ tennis teams back home and allowing all of our students new opportunities for recreational play.”

Both of the men’s and women’s tennis teams currently rent the tennis facilities at Centennial Park for practices and home matches.

With the new courts being added, the Bruins can now stay on campus for all matches and practices.

“Bringing tennis courts back to campus is exciting news for our campus and tennis programs,” said Scott Corley director of athletics in a press release. “The on-campus courts will be a tremendous benefit in recruiting and player development.”

The garage will stand across the street from the new performing arts center.
