Belmont Hall of Famer Kerron Johnson is expected to follow former Bruins head coach Casey Alexander to Kansas State, as first reported by Joe Tipton of On3.

Johnson had been on Alexander’s coaching staff for four years after a playing career at Belmont from 2009 to 2013.

The former Bruins point guard was credited with developing former Belmont guards Carter Whitt of the Nurnberg Falcons in Germany, Ja’Kobi Gillespie of the University of Tennessee and Ben Sheppard of the Indiana Pacers.

Johnson ranks first all-time for Belmont in free throws made and attempted, third in assists and steals, and seventh in games played.

He was a member of the All-Atlantic Sun team and the All-A-Sun tournament team in 2011-12, and he was All-Ohio Valley Conference, All-OVC Tournament and the All-OVC Tournament MVP in 2012-13.

During his time as a player, the Bruins won four consecutive conference championships and made three March Madness appearances.

He is perhaps best known for his late-game heroics in the 2013 OVC Championship win over Murray State, including the shot that sent the game to overtime and the game-winning shot.

He was inducted into the Belmont Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021.

By joining Alexander at Kansas State, Johnson is the first assistant coach to leave Belmont’s staff.

Meanwhile, three players have already announced their intentions to join the transfer portal: Tyler Lundblade, Drew Scharnowski and Win Miller.
