Bruin Blitz 3/25/16

Due to Easter Break, this week’s Bruin Blitz will come to you in written form.

Basketball season is officially over for the Bruins. The women’s team faced off against Michigan State in the first round of the NCAA tournament in Starkville, Miss. on Friday, but fell 74-60 to the Spartans.

Now that basketball is over, baseball and softball is heating up at Belmont.

Baseball’s conference season kicked off with a series against Eastern Kentucky last weekend. They dropped the first game on Friday 2-1, but came back the next day to win 6-5. Finally, they closed out the series with a win on Sunday 6-5, clinching the series.

On Tuesday, the team took a break from its conference schedule to play a midweek contest at rival Lipscomb. Belmont’s bats lit up scoring 23 runs in a dominating 23-6 victory.

The Bruins’ hot bats continued on Thursday at Morehead State where the Bruins won 20-8.

The softball team also competed in conference last weekend. The team squared off against Morehead state for a doubleheader on Saturday. The Bruins lost both games 12-2, 2-1 respectively. The final game on sunday also went in the Eagles’ favor, 4-3.

The Bruins also faced off against the Bisons for a midweek matchup on Wednesday. They fell to Lipscomb 4-3.

Now onto the court where men’s tennis is also competing in conference. They lost to Jacksonville State 5-2 on Friday.

Women’s golf is in the heat of the season. The team traveled to Birmingham, Alabama to compete in the Samford Intercollegiate where they finished 8th.

A lot is happening in sports this week for the Bruins.

First, men’s track and field is back at it with a meet in Nashville at Vanderbilt for the Black and Gold meet happening Friday and Saturday.

The women’s team is also competing, but they are on the road to North Carolina for the Raleigh Relays on Friday and Saturday.

Men’s and women’s tennis continue its conference schedule hosting a match against Eastern Kentucky on Friday. The women are first up at 10 a.m. and the men follow at 12:30 p.m.

The teams play again on Saturday, hosting Morehead State. The women are first up again at 10 a.m. and the men at 12:30 p.m.

Softball is on the road with a doubleheader at Southeast Missouri on Friday. The first game is at 1 p.m. and the second is at 3 p.m. They’re at it again on Saturday with a doubleheader at UT Martin. First game is set for 1 p.m. and the second follows at 3 p.m.

Baseball is also on the road at Morehead State for a series Friday and Saturday. Friday’s game is at 3 p.m. and Saturday’s is at 12 p.m.

You won’t want to miss Belmont baseball facing off against Vanderbilt on Tuesday at First Tennessee Park. First pitch is thrown at 6:30 p.m.
