Students filled the Curb Event Center Friday evening to take part in a celebration of God in the way Belmont knows best: music.

Christian Showcase, the second installment of this year’s Showcase Series, brought together four artists who filled the arena with worship and original music. The night’s performers included Jonathan Hammet, Madeline Ruffin, Naari and Genevieve Braden.

Each artist presented three-song sets inspired by Scripture that guided their songwriting. The variety of styles throughout the night, from contemporary pop to soulful ballads, highlighted the diversity of Belmont's Christian music scene.

“This is just a reminder to all of you out there, whatever you are going through, trust in God and he will show up and he will get you through it,” said Naari, a senior commercial voice major and the winner of the night.

The showcase featured elaborate production elements and an enthusiastic crowd, highlighting what makes Belmont’s performance culture unique.

“We are so thankful that Belmont University is really the only place where something like this exists and we’re really lucky for that,” said Carter Guse, junior songwriting major and emcee of the showcase. “It’s not everyday we get to do something like this.”

Beyond the music, the event also encouraged students pursuing creative careers. Guse reminded the audience that their peers may one day become their collaborators.

“Who knows, maybe one day you’ll be on this judges panel,” he said. “You will work with your peers so make sure you become friends and work with everyone because one day they will be your co-workers.”

With Christian Showcase wrapped, the series will continue with the Pop Showcase, set for Nov. 1 in the Curb Event Center.
