Community Connections Fair opens Wednesday

Join the Office of Service-Learning and sixty-seven non-profit organizations at this year’s Community Connections Fair in the Neely Dining Room on Wed., Sept. 28.

Originally started by the College of Business Career Development Center, the Community Connections Fair has connected Belmont students, faculty, and staff with middle Tennessee non-profits for more than five years. The fair is now presented by the Center for Social Entrepreneurship and Service-Learning, and is co-sponsored by the Belmont Social Work Club.

Students can receive Personal/Professional Growth convocation credit by visiting at least three booths and having “meaningful dialogue” with representatives from those organizations, and then having those representatives initial a roster the students receive when they enter the fair.

“Most people take about twenty of thirty minutes to visit three booths,” said Tim Stewart, the Director for Service-Learning and coordinator of the Community Connections Fair. “But many take longer since there is such a wealth of information available.”

Of the sixty-seven non-profits that will be represented at the fair, a few examples include Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee, Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee, Hands-On Nashville, and the Nashville Adult Literacy Council. The fair is scheduled to last from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
