Belmont University’s annual Day to Dream festival will look more like a day of drear.
The festival, originally scheduled for the South Lawn, will move inside due to Wednesday's predicted rain and strong winds.
“Due to the forecasted weather Wednesday, most Day to Dream activities will now take place indoors in the Curb Event Center Arena,” read an email from University Communications.
“While we’re sad to lose the mechanical rides and outdoor festivities, we’re excited to keep the celebration going with plenty of indoor fun, food and fall spirit,” according to the email.
Meteorologists expect a day of steady rain and wind across Middle Tennessee. “Essentially, what we have is we have a storm that is currently developing over Arkansas, and it’s moving east into Tennessee,” said Caleb Cravens, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service.
“We’re looking like we’re probably going to see rainfall most of the day with and with those minimal breaks, along with the rain. With this storm track, it’s actually setting up to have some decent wind with it too. We’re going to see wind speeds anywhere between 10 to 12 miles per hour, and then gusting around 20 miles per hour for a good chunk of the day,” said Cravens.
Despite the weather-related adjustments, students and staff say they appreciate the university’s efforts to preserve the event.
“I just think it shows like, yeah, how much the university cares about the students to go through that effort of moving it, you know, rather than maybe just canceling it or picking another day, because there might not be just another day we get on from classes,” said Gracie Baskowski, a staff member at Belmont.
Although outdoor attractions like rides and games will be cut, the event will still feature performances, food, and other indoor activities celebrating the start of the fall season.
