Belmont’s Student Government Association laid out the foundation for the next school year during its first general assembly meeting on Friday.
The meeting included the inauguration of the 2025-2026 cabinet. Frank Reed stepped into the role of SGA president alongside Vice President Abigail Daugherty, marking the third transfer of power in three semesters.
Reed and Daugherty, who were elected in March 2025, are both longtime contributors to the association. Daugherty was a senator for the 2024-2025 school year, while Reed served as outreach liaison in fall 2024 and finance committee chair in spring 2025. He also served as a senator the year prior.

Other cabinet members include Treasurer Ethan Lowry, Chief of Staff Kendall Ownby, Parliamentarian Olivia Patterson, Director of Academic Affairs Alyssa Charow, Director of Communications Ashlyn Gumm, Director of Programming Sophie O’Brien and DEI Chair Dia Abdullah.
For Reed, the role of president was a long time coming, but also an immense honor.
“When you're given a position of power, as a doctor, as a politician… it is such an incredible honor and opportunity to serve those people. I can't imagine not wanting to be at your absolute best,” said Reed.
The cabinet also addressed the semester funding structure for Belmont’s Muslim Student Association, sponsored by Treasurer Ethan Lowry and Sen. Nandi Dube. The unanimously passed bill, SB 1, will allow the MSA to run events such as bake sales that will generate funds outside of the student government.
“I know that the incoming class of freshmen has a large majority of students who want to represent and identify with this organization, so fostering this kind of community is foundational in support of the program,” said Sen. Rosheen Sinde.
The association has already funded five student organizations this semester, totaling $1,900.
Lowry notes that it’s highly beneficial to student organizations if they send SGA funding requests early in the school year.
“Our priority is to fund as many clubs/organizations as possible, with a focus on new student organizations,” said Lowry. “Ultimately, we seek to foster campus engagement and community involvement through strategic funding.”
The SGA cabinet has implemented more organization with its Period Product Charter to ensure that campus bathrooms with free product dispensers stay stocked throughout the school year.
Additionally, SGA will continue its tradition of hosting tables at It Must Be Wednesday until fall break. The table will have information on voter registration on Wednesday.
