GoFundMe launched for Belmont student in hospital

A GoFundMe was launched on Sunday to help pay for Belmont student Marqus McDermott’s medical expenses.

McDermott has undergone many surgeries because of a serious heart condition.

He had his first open heart surgery to repair an aortic dissection on Sept. 11 and a second one on Sept. 23. Four days later, McDermott began his third surgery due to a deadly infection.

As of Tuesday, McDermott has undergone eleven surgeries.

McDermott is a junior commercial voice major at Belmont but had to withdraw from the university in September.

“He is loved by all who have known him, he has a positive outlook and is looking forward to sharing his faith and ministry with others,” McDermott’s family said in the GoFundMe post.

The GoFundMe has raised more than $5,000 in six days. To donate, clickhere.
