Men's Basketball Falls to Evansville at Home

Nick Rampe

Belmont men’s basketball was defeated by the Evansville Purple Aces on Sunday 80-75.

The Bruins have now lost back-to-back games and fall to fourth place in the Missouri Valley Conference.

Evansville freshman guard Gabriel Pozzato played all 40 minutes and led all scorers with 22 points.

Jonathan Pierre led the Bruins with 19 points, and Carter Whitt tallied 10 assists.

Belmont fell behind in a chippy second half as Evansville made many hustle plays.

The Purple Aces finished with 18 offensive rebounds, which helped them score 38 points in the paint.

“To get 18 out of their 40 missed shots is unacceptable,” said head coach Casey Alexander following the loss.

Despite shooting more efficiently from the field, Belmont shot just 10 free throws compared to Evansville’s 25, shooting 60 percent from the line compared to Evansville’s 76 percent.

“We put ourselves in positions where we got to play near perfect to win games,” said Alexander.

Belmont will look to get back on track Wednesday in an important conference game against Bradley.
