Belmont women’s basketball dominated both of its games over the weekend.

On Friday, the Bruins walked out of the Curb Event Center with a 90-65 win over Evansville Friday night.

It’s the sixth straight win for the Bruins as they continue to fight for the top spot in the Missouri Valley conference.

The team’s 90-point scoring outburst also marked its highest total since the 2022-23 season.

Senior forward Kendal Cheesman led the Bruins in points and rebounds with 12 and seven respectively.

She was far from the only contributor however.

The Bruins had six different double-digit scorers with graduate guard Jacee Busick and freshman forward Hilary Fuller having season-highs in scoring with eight points each.

“To see the ball move, and to see the ball go in the basket for a lot of different people, that’s a really good thing,” said head coach Bart Brooks.

Senior guard Tuti Jones was the main distributor, dishing out a season-high seven assists.

The Bruins were unstoppable in every facet of the game, shooting 54 percent from the field, 50 percent from 3-point range, forced 20 turnovers, blocking five shots, totaling a season-high 26 assists and at one point holding a 40-point lead.

Belmont’s Women’s Basketball didn't stop there, as they defeated the Indiana State Sycamores on Sunday afternoon by a blowout score of 88-58.

They advanced to 8-1 in the Missouri Valley Conference, riding on a 7-game winning streak.

The Bruins brought their A-game, putting six points on the board before Indiana State got a chance to score.

Senior forward Kendal Cheesman led the Bruins in points and rebounds for the first half, making her a tough wall for the Sycamores to break down.

Belmont took advantage of sloppy play by the Sycamores, able to weave in-and-out of defensive players and found ever open channel to the net.

The quarter ended with a 19-6 lead for the Bruins.

The second quarter started off with Belmont keeping the same momentum. Both teams put points on the board, but the Bruins still lead well into the second quarter by more than double the points.

Belmont guards Jailyn Banks and Kendall Holmes brought the heat back into the Curb for the second half, offensively dominating and scoring points left and right and making it into the double digits in points.

Thanks to their efforts, Belmont led by 27 points with three minutes left in the third quarter.

As the Bruins reset for the last quarter of the game, they led 63-37.

Coming out of the locker room in a relaxed fashion, Belmont still played aggressively, Tuti Jones stealing possession three times in the first three minutes of the quarter.

Things continued to look promising for the Bruins, as they creeped ahead despite the Sycamore’s best efforts.

The momentum from the high continued throughout despite frequent foul interruptions, the Bruins still ended up on top.

“I feel like Coach Bart has been curating a really good mentality for us in this mid part of the season. We’re really focusing on just being aggressive out there, pushing the pace, playing our pace and getting on the boards,” said Cheesman.

The women are back in the curb Saturday to host Murray State, which is the No.1 seed in the MVC.
