In the first half, Belmont struggled to connect most of its 3-point attempts and only led the game 33-29 at halftime.

EKU put up a great fight, hitting 55 percent of its 3-point shots in the first half, even though the team came into Saturday’s game with an overall record of 2-12 and a 0-3 conference record.

Late in the third quarter, the Bruins extended their lead to 13 points when senior Darby Maggard stole the ball and passed it to senior Jenny Roy, who scored a 3-pointer. This completely changed the momentum of the game, preventing EKU from coming within 10 for the rest of the half.

The Bruins won with the help of Maggard — who scored 13 points and went 3-6 from behind the arch — and Roy — who scored 10 points and picked up six rebounds and six assists.

Junior Maura Muensterman scored the team high with 17 points.

Junior Maddie Wright also had a great night as she rebounded nine, helping the Bruins massively on defense.

With Saturday’s win, the Bruins improved their conference record to 3-1, with a 10-5 overall record.

The Bruins will have a few days off before they head to Jacksonville State to face the Gamecocks on Thursday at 5 p.m..
