The Belmont Bruins beat the Western Kentucky University Hilltoppers 90-69 Saturday at the first home game of the season. Belmont’s annual tradition of First on the Floor started the game with excitement and energy and officially welcomed the freshman to Belmont basketball.
Belmont had a rocky start to the game and trailed Western Kentucky for a majority of the first quarter, but Amanze Egekeze made a dunk with just more than a minute left pulling the Bruins into the lead.
Belmont came out into the second half energized and held the lead for the rest of the game.
Belmont ended with 16 3-pointers, starting the season off with a solid record. Evan Bradds lead the team with 26 points, followed by Nick Smith with 18. WKU junior Justin Johnson led his team with 17 points and nine rebounds.
The Bruins will play the Florida Gators Monday at 6 p.m. airing on the SEC Network and will return home to play the Battle of the Boulevard against Lipscomb with a scheduled tip-off at 6:30 p.m.
