David Gregory officially named new provost

Interim provost David Gregory is taking on the role full time, President Greg Jones announced Wednesday.

Gregory has served as the interim provost for three months, after Thomas Burns announced his departure last spring.

“I’m delighted to share that after a thorough national search with strong engagement by an excellent search committee, I have selected David to assume the long-term role of Executive Vice President for Academic Excellence and Provost,” Jones wrote in an email to faculty.

“Dr. David Gregory has demonstrated tremendous leadership, insightful understanding of Belmont and a strong commitment to our vision and mission.”

Before signing on as provost, Gregory served as the dean of Belmont’s College of Pharmacy for five years.

“I’m confident the exceptional work he’s initiated with our colleges this summer and the continuity of his leadership on our campus will take Belmont to even greater heights,” Jones wrote.

At the time of publication, the university had not named Gregory’s replacement as dean.
