EDITORIAL: I Was Lied To

A Bruin does not lie, cheat, or steal and does not tolerate those acts.
I have been lied to, cheated, and my heart has been stolen.
After a disappointing performance by the men’s basketball team there was only one thing to sort of look forward to.
With speculative reports from Sports Illustrated and On 3 linking Casey Alexander for the head coach position at Kansas State, It seemed like my final chance to ask for his next move.
It might have not been the best timing to ask after a 21-point loss to a ninth seeded Drake team, but I did anyway.
I asked directly after fluffing up the team for the respectable regular season it had to ask if Alexander was leaving Nashville for Manhattan… Kansas.
I expected no comment or a sidestep from Alexander, but to my surprise, he didn’t miss a beat.
“My plans are to be back at Belmont and have a great team and see if we can win March Madness,” he said. “Unless you know something that I don't know, I don't think there's anything else to worry or think about.”
Well, I guess, I knew.
I heard he was leaving, he said he wasn’t, seven days later, he’s out.
Even though he said there was nothing else to worry about, there’s plenty.
With five seniors on this year’s team and even more likely to depart, I’m not worried at all.
At the end of the day it’s all about the Valley, until a Power 5 school poaches our coach.
Listen, Casey, C-Dawg, the Big C as some call him (they don’t, I hope), I am not mad at your decision. In fact, I am happy for you.
Though you left me a dear John note–a break up through text–you couldn’t even say it to my face that we were done.
I guess that’s the difference a week makes.
I drove from southwest Florida to St. Louis.
I left Thursday at 7:30 a.m. to get to St. Louis at 5 a.m. Friday, on my spring break.
That’s 21 and a half hours driven to watch Belmont lose by 21.
I drove for you, Casey, and you couldn’t even go the extra mile for me.
You lied to me and every Bruin fan.
A Bruin also has to follow the Bruin code of conduct, so I will clarify by saying I have no hate for Casey Alexander.
You led this program to four regular season championships, along with an Ohio Valley Conference tournament championship.
But you didn’t have to lie.
Now enjoy that well-deserved $3.4 million-a-year payout.
