Fraternity recruiting begins with info session, cookout

For the men of Belmont, Interfraternity Council recruitment offers an opportunity to explore a long-standing university tradition of brotherhood.

Recruitment starts Tuesday when IFC holds an information session and cookout.

“This is just a chance for the guys to get familiar with the process, meet some of the fraternity men, and get some free food,” Matt Griffin, IFC vice president, said.

Each fraternity will have individual events around campus Wednesday through Friday, September 21-23. Men must attend one event from each fraternity in order to receive a bid. Theses events will include games, activities and presentations that allow the guys to better acquaint themselves with the organizations and vise-versa.

Each fraternity’s formal presentation is Saturday, Sept. 24. Dress code is business formal, but Griffin said it’s understood that some men didn’t pack a dress suit for freshman year.

Sunday is “bid-day” where those offered a bid to join a fraternity or fraternities will chose to accept or decline.

“We are looking for guys who are committed to serving others, developing their leadership skills, and excelling academically,” Griffin said. “The sorority women had a record-breaking recruitment this year, and we are hoping to do the same.”

All men who want to participate in recruitment must register at http://www.belmont.edu/organizations/greek/index.html
