Belmont women’s soccer head coach Heather Henson, who led the Bruins to an Ohio Valley Conference title in 2019, will not return next season, Belmont athletics announced Tuesday.

Henson is the winningest coach in program history, recording 82 wins in her 12 seasons as head coach.

“We appreciate all that Heather has contributed to our athletic program and wish her well in her future endeavors,” Belmont Vice President and athletic director Scott Corley said in a statement.

In 2022, the team recorded an overall 5-6-6 record for its first season in the Missouri Valley Conference, falling to the University of Northern Iowa in the MVC tournament’s first round.

Moving forward, assistant coach Sam Mahtani will serve as interim head coach with support from coach Tinna Gallagher.

A national search for a new head coach will begin immediately, Belmont athletics said.
