Lawn closure to begin Thursday

The Belmont Lawn will close for a two to three week period on Thursday to allow new seed to grow, said Vice President of Finance and Operations Steve Lasley.

“The Lawn will remain closed for a two to three week period — down from four to six weeks last year — so the seedlings can grow to a point where they can withstand foot traffic,” Lasley wrote in an email.

During that period, Lasley confirmed that the Quad, the green space near the Alumni House and Hitch, the lawn between the Baskin and Johnson centers and the South Lawn by the Curb Garage will all remain open.

Lasley said he thinks this process will take less time than it has in the past.

“I hope to reopen the Lawn sooner rather than later.”
