Meet the new Bruin: Karen Baker

Belmont freshman Karen Baker started playing soccer because of her parents and has stuck with it to get where she is.

“My parents signed me up when I was 5 like most soccer moms do,” said Baker. “Then, I really liked it so I kept pursuing it.”

Prior to Belmont, Baker played for a club team called Michigan Hawks Black which made semifinals appearance in multiple national U16 tournaments during her time with the club.

Baker grew up in Midland, Mich which she describes as a sheltered, small-town community.

The freshman made the decision to come to Belmont after meeting the coaching staff and visiting the campus.

“I came here because I really liked the coaching staff and the campus was really nice,” said Baker. “I also like Nashville a lot.”

When she’s not playing soccer, Baker says she enjoys sleeping.

Baker can be seen playing midfield and defense for the Bruins in home games at Rose Park. Catch Baker and the rest of the women’s soccer team Sept. 4 against Valparaiso.
