Men’s Basketball played Evansville for the final time in Curb Event Center this season, closing out on a record-breaking game Wednesday.
The clock hardly ran before the first score.
Only 16 seconds in, graduate guard Tyler Lundblade scored his first three-pointer of the game.
Evansville was able to quickly follow up with a good jumper in the paint by senior forward AJ Casey.
The Purple Aces attempted to keep the game back-and-forth, but Belmont had other plans pulling away to a 44-29 lead by the end of the first half.
The second half opened up with Evansville getting to the paint first with a layup by Casey.
Sophomore forward Sam Orme struck back for the Bruins with his fourth three-pointer of the night.
Lundblade followed suit after another Evansville layup with a successful shot at the arc breaking the single-season 3-point field goal record in program history.
Up until 9:55 Orme, sophomore forward Drew Scharnowski and freshman guard Jack Smiley remained missless.
Scharnowski and Smiley went to only miss one shot attempt, Orme remained.
Orme finished the game perfect, going five-for-five in field goals and four-for-four in three point shots.
Belmont continued to be in a rhythm that Evansville never got out of tempo.
With five minutes left in the game the Bruins had a 31-point lead over the Purple Aces.
Freshman forward Eoin Dillon closed out the night with the 21st three-point of the night, a Belmont record.
The Bruins overcame the Purple Aces 98-64.
"It's just a good win for the guys, you don't walk into any game thinking you're about to set records. We thought we were going to have the fight of our lives,” said Head Coach Casey Alexander, “That's how we approach it. We just played well.”
Lundblade in his final home game gave perspective on his last game in the Curb Event Center.
“This is the place I call home,” Lundblade said, “This place embraced me with open arms…I've had a heck of a two years here.”
The Bruins will head away to Illinois State for the final game of the regular season.
