Men’s basketball releases schedule for 2017-2018 season

The Belmont men’s basketball team released its schedule for the upcoming 2017-2018 season Wednesday.

The Bruins will start the season November 10 on the west coast, as they take on the Washington Huskies — a strong PAC 12 opponent.

The Bruins will start the home season against Vanderbilt University at the Curb Event Center November 13. Last season, the Commodores hosted the Bruins at Memorial Gymnasium — defeating the Bruins 80-66.

Belmont will face rival Jacksonville State on January 6. This will be the first time the Bruins face Jacksonville after the upset in the semifinals of the OVC Tournament in March which eliminated the favored Bruins.

The annual Battle of the Boulevard against local rival Lipscomb University will start at home on November 27, and again on December 4 at Lipscomb. The Bruins have won the last 11 matchups against the Bison, however, last season’s victories came from two buzzer beaters from Dylan Windler and Taylor Barnette.

Some familiar faces that the Bruins faced last year include Providence, Middle Tennessee State, Western Kentucky, Milwaukee and Pepperdine. Games against Milwaukee and Pepperdine will be played at home.

This season, the Bruins will also host the 2K Classic Benefiting Wounded Warrior Project at the Curb Event Center on November 18 and 19. Detroit Mercy, Houston Baptist University and Seattle University will all face off in the Curb during the tournament.

Conference play will begin December 28 as Belmont takes on Southeast Missouri State in Missouri. On January 4, the Bruins will host Tennessee Tech at the Curb Event Center. Last year, Tennessee Tech ended Belmont’s 14-game winning streak.

The Bruins are returning 10 players from last year and adding six new faces this season.
