Men’s soccer shuts out No. 22 Xavier

The Belmont men’s soccer team shutout No. 22 Xavier 1-0 in its first exhibition match of the season Sunday night in Cincinnati.

The lone goal for the Bruins came from senior Sam Miller when he sent a penalty kick past Musketeers goalkeeper Eric Osswald in the 53rd minute.

Both teams had nine shots in the contest with Belmont having six shots on goal. Freshman Grayson Rector made three saves to earn the shutout victory for the Bruins against the preseason ranked No. 22 in the country.

Belmont will return to action at Rose Park for their final exhibition match against the Evansville Purple Aces on Friday at 5pm.
