Belmont’s men’s soccer team finished with its third consecutive 1-1 tie when it allowed a goal with no time left in the game to Presbyterian College’s Samuel Murar on Sunday.
The still undefeated Bruins now sit at a 3-0-3 record. Their streak is up to eight consecutive matches without a loss, dating back to last season.
Belmont’s sole goal was scored by redshirt sophomore Lucas Wolthers within a minute of the second half’s start; the first goal of his career.
“That’s huge for me, and huge for the team as well,” said Wolthers. “It’s a personal win, but also, it’s a team win. I’ve played with these guys for almost a year now. They’re always encouraging, and to get that goal, it means a lot.”
Wolthers’ goal was Belmont’s only shot on goal in the match. Presbyterian outshot Belmont 9-4.
The Bruins have allowed just four goals through six games and have yet to allow more than one goal in a game this season, and Wolthers contributed this success to the team’s chemistry.
“Every person has each other’s back,” he said. “They don’t play for themselves; they play for each other. When you have that mentality, the guys on the bench and the guys on the field, it doesn’t matter where you are. Everybody’s contributing to that.”
The Bruins’ next chance to snap either their winless streak or undefeated streak will be Wednesday, when they travel to Southern Indiana.
