Baseball 2017 Mule Mix Challenge

The Belmont baseball team hosted the second annual Mule Mix Challenge at Rose Park against Missouri State, Northwestern and Bowling Green.

Despite a rough start to the season, the Bruins recorded two out of three wins — beating Northwestern and Bowling Green. Unfortunately, the team lost to Missouri State on Feb. 24 after a hard fought battle, leaving the Bruins with a 7-5 loss.

The Bruins came back swinging in game two of the Mule Mix, recording a 6-1 win over Northwestern. Sophomore pitcher, Dylan King, retired nine of the first 10 batters and earned his first win of the season.

In the final game of the Mule Mix, the Bruins started off strong against Bowling Green, recording two runs in the first inning. However, the team quickly fell behind.

Senior Nick Egli, a key player in the game, blasted two doubles to help ignite the flame within the team. The Bruins came back in the eighth inning to stun the Falcons and record a 7-5 win.

Belmont will return to Rose Park on Feb. 28 to play Southern Illinois at 4 p.m.
