The searches for a new dean of students and Title IX coordinator are nearing completion, said Provost Dr. Thomas Burns in Monday’s bi-weekly SGA meeting.
Former Dean of Students Dr. Jeffrey Burgin and Molly Zlock, former director of Title IX compliance and prevention programming, both announced their resignations in November.
Burns, who has been acting as interim dean of students since Burgin resigned, hopes to make a job offer to a new dean of students by the end of February so they can start by April 1.
After receiving about 50 applications for the position and conducting 10 phone interviews, Burns said Belmont will narrow down candidates further and then announce the finalists to students in the coming weeks.
“We would love to have student input on that,” he said.
As for Zlock’s position, currently being filled by Marlene Hall, assistant chief of programming, advocacy and outreach for Campus Security, the provost hopes to find a permanent replacement in the next few weeks.
After narrowing down the Title IX coordinator search to four finalists, Belmont is bringing one back to go before a search committee Friday, said Burns.
The search committee will include student leaders from organizations such as SGA, HOPE Council and Black Student Association, said SGA President Shania Jones.
“That spot has been open since Molly left,” Jones said. “It’s time to get someone in there.”
