With finals week approaching, Belmont entered the game undefeated, a streak that had become a defining part of the season.
Every game to that point had followed a similar pattern: chemistry, resilience and consistent free-throw shooting.
But on this night, that pattern shifted.
Richmond handed Belmont its first loss of the season, 84-76, in a game that felt like a test for both the fans and the players.
The Bruins scored 36 points in the paint, attacking the rim with confidence.
Shots fell inside, just not from a distance.
Belmont attempted 34 three-pointers, with only 11 finding the net.
Belmont went 7-for-15 at the free-throw line, a number that proved costly.
The Bruins stayed within reach of the Spiders throughout the game.
They moved the ball with purpose, finishing with 15 assists, 31 rebounds and seven steals.
Unfortunately, 15 turnovers became the one number they could not keep low.
In the second half, Belmont looked like a team fighting two opponents, the Spiders and the rim. Belmont's effort didn’t waver, but their shots did.
The night ended with a frustrating break to their streak and showed how costly missed chances can be. -
