Tennis stars Hendrik Inno and Marko Ilic lost in Belmont’s first ever appearance in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Fall National Championship on Wednesday night.
Inno and Ilic made Belmont history when they won the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Doubles against Timo Stodder and Preston Touliatos of the University of Tennessee in the finals.
The duo played the No. 7 doubles team in the country, August Holmgren and Joel Gamerov, from the University of San Diego.
Inno and Ilic struggled to pick up steam and lost the first set 6-4, but they started the second set strong, tieing up the match at 6-6.
In a tense tiebreaker, they ultimately lost the set in a hard contested 7-6(4) outcome.
Inno and Ilic will play in a consolation match against Julien Evrard and Kostya Nesterenko from the University of Nevada tonight at 7 p.m..
