Showcasing scenic displays that model the sets of the upcoming shows, TPAC pulled out all the stops for their upcoming season starting in September.

“This season is one for the history books,” said Josh Holliday, director of communications at TPAC.

America celebrates its 250th birthday this year, which influenced the selection of some of the shows produced at TPAC.

Several productions will honor and celebrate American history, telling the “American story,” Holliday said.

Three of the nine shows directly explore and analyze the American experience through a musical lens.

“Suffs” follows the suffragettes’ journey to securing the nineteenth amendment, granting women the right to vote in the early 20th century.

The eponymous “Hamilton” portrays the nation’s founding fathers as they establish the country’s government and lead America’s fight for independence against England during the American Revolution.

“Water for Elephants,” a musical adapted from Sara Gruen’s 2006 book of the same name, unfolds during the Great Depression, reinforcing the theme of pivotal moments in American history.

Those are just the shows that focus on American history, but the rest of the lineup offers just as much excitement.

“The Wiz” will hit the TPAC stage, presenting an alternative take on “The Wizard of Oz” with foot-tapping music and fun-to-watch interpretations of the classic tale.

“The Outsiders,” a musical adaptation based on S.E. Hinton’s novel, follows teenagers navigating social class rivalries in 1950s Oklahoma.

“Beauty and the Beast,” the musical inspired by the Disney film, tells the love story between Belle, a French peasant, and a former prince-turned-beast.

“Back to the Future” follows teenager Marty McFly and his friend Dr. Emmett Brown as they travel through time to safeguard McFly’s existence.

“Some Like It Hot” revolves around two men fleeing Chicago after witnessing a mob hit.

In addition to the featured productions, TPAC will present three limited-run add-on shows.

“Les Misérables,” the first add-on, follows freed prisoner Jean Valjean as he fights to right the wrongs in his city while navigating the Paris uprising.

“Six,” the second add-on, reimagines the story of King Henry VIII’s six wives from their perspective, structured like a pop girl group performance.

“The Book of Mormon,” the final add-on, follows two Mormon missionaries on their mission trip to Africa.
