The Timeout with Ty: The Titans are Giving Me Serious Déjà Vu

Updated: Sep 25

I want to paint a picture for everyone about the Tennessee Titans’ performances so far during this season.

  • Quarterback Will Levis threw a nice touchdown pass but also had a mind-boggling turnover.

  • The opposing team blocked a punt, resulting in a change of momentum.

  • The defense stayed strong for most of the game, making it difficult for the opposing quarterback to produce big plays.

  • The Titans lost 24-17.

If I were to tell you these facts, you’d probably ask me if I were talking about week one or week two.

Yes, you’re reading that right.

All four of these things happened in BOTH of the Titans’ first two games this season.

You’d think the Titans would improve upon their mistakes from their game against the Chicago Bears.

Nope.

Those mistakes reappeared in Sunday's week two matchup against the New York Jets.

With his team in the red zone in the second quarter, Levis had a chance to give the Titans either a 10-point or a 14-point lead.

He felt the pocket collapsing and decided to scramble.

But instead of taking the sack and the field goal, Levis dove and underhand tossed the football to a surprised Tyjae Spears, which the Jets then recovered for a turnover.

Forget the beautiful 40-yard touchdown pass to Calvin Ridley that happened later in the game.

The one thing that anyone will remember is that ridiculous play and head coach Brian Callahan’s expletive-filled reaction afterward.

Punter Ryan Stonehouse also looked visibly frustrated on the sidelines after his second blocked punt in two weeks.

Can you blame him?

During a game against the Indianapolis Colts last season, Stonehouse suffered a torn ACL, MCL and broken leg after a collision.

The Titans must find better ways to protect him, or they’re risking injuring one of the best punters in the league.

Lastly, no one should blame the defense for losing this game since it held the Jets’ supposed high-powered offense to only 265 yards with quarterback Aaron Rodgers struggling to find any rhythm.

With a matchup against the Packers and quarterback Malik Willis –– who the Titans traded right before the start of the season –– in week three, the Titans –– Levis especially –– need to look better.

If he doesn’t, we might be having questions about whether he is the answer at quarterback.
