‘The Voice of the Bruins’ recognized with OVC Media Award

Belmont’s very own Kevin Ingram, the voice of the men’s basketball broadcast, is the 2017-2018 recipient of the Ohio Valley Conference Media Award.

The award was created in 2010 to recognize media members who bring publicity to the OVC and do their jobs with accuracy, fairness and consistency, according to the OVC website.

Ingram has has served as the play-by-play commentator for Belmont’s men’s basketball games for 15 years and is nicknamed “The Voice of the Bruins.” He’s also the co-host of 104.5 The Zone’s morning sports show, “The Wake-Up Zone.”

“It’s really a great honor to win this award, and neat to be on a distinguished list of past honorees,” said Ingram. “I’m also very proud to represent Belmont and the consistent excellence of the basketball program, with Coach Byrd leading the way for all these years.”

In his 15 years of announcing Belmont basketball, Ingram has not only become a familiar voice to fans of the Bruins, he’s also served as a representative for Belmont as whole, said Belmont Athletic Director Scott Corley.

“I am extremely excited for Kevin on this well-deserved honor. Kevin has been a great ambassador for Belmont athletics and the OVC,” Corley said. “We are lucky to have someone of his caliber calling out basketball games.”

This is not the first recognition Belmont has received for its sports broadcasts. This past season, Belmont’s OVC Digital Network earned awards from the conference for excellence in clarity of production, graphics and ancillary programming, as well as the Overall Award of Excellence.

But Ingram is the first commentator in Belmont history to receive the OVC Media Award.

“It’s been fun to be a part of the Belmont family for 15 seasons,” he said.
