Belmont University women’s soccer returns to E.S. Rose Park on Thursday for its second home match of the season and its first since students returned to campus.
The Bruins will host the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga in hopes of building some momentum in the young season.
With two games already out of the way, Belmont is still searching for its first win of the season after a scoreless draw against Tennessee Technological University in its home opener and a 2-0 loss to Samford University.
As for the Mocs, the team opened its season at home with a draw against the University of Tennessee at Martin.
Chattanooga picked up its first win in dominant fashion against Winthrop , scoring five goals while keeping a clean sheet.
With Chattanooga coming off a commanding offensive feat, Belmont’s backline could play a key role in slowing down the Mocs’ attack.
Senior defender Lillie Tabor has rarely left the field for Belmont, playing the full 90 minutes in 16 of the Bruins’ last 18 matches, according to Belmont Athletics.
While Mocs’ sophomore forward Quinn Johnson leads the team in goals, three other Mocs have already found the back of the net.
Chattanooga’s ability to spread the ball around makes it difficult for Belmont to focus its defensive efforts on one player.
The Bruins, meanwhile, are still searching for their first goal of the season.
Now with students back on campus, it sets up an opportunity for the first goal of the season to be in front of Belmont students.
