An online floury trend has hit campus, and it isn’t leaving students flat.
Students are sliding tortillas, yes, tortillas, under dorm room doors in a trend that has gone national.
The flat round bread is being shoved under doors in Patton, Potter, Maddox, Thrailkill, Wiseman and Hewlett halls.
The tortilla trail didn’t stop there.
Pierce McKown was of the first on campus to get tortilla-ed.
“This isn’t a unique experience. I thought it was a one-off thing. And then I looked on TikTok and saw that a bunch of people got tortilla-ed across the nation,” McKown said.
But it wasn’t just a one-time thing for him.
“The first incident... we had no idea what was going on. By the second tortilla, we’re like, OK, for sure, someone is going around doing it to everybody. Then by the third, it was targeted,” he said.
Even though five tortillas have slid under his door this month, he’s just as excited as he was after the first incident.
“It’s nice to know that I have a friend out there who’s close enough to me that wants to tortilla me,” McKown said.
Sophomore Bronagh Barrett is on the flip side of the tortilla trend.
She’s dishing them out.
She rallied a team of friends and planned a bread brouhaha.
“It was exhilarating. It kind of reminded me of ding-dong ditch when I was a kid, but tortilla style.”
As the prank kneads its way across campus, it’s serving up harmless humor.
“We haven’t gotten any reports about it,” Campus Security Maj. Taylor Gray said.
