Defending OVC Tournament Champions, the No. 2 ranked Belmont Bruins (19-14), fell to four sets against No.7 ranked SIUE Cougars (13-17) in the first round of the OVC Tournament Thursday.

In the back-and-forth second set, the largest scoring gap was two points for the majority of the set.

The Bruins once again held close behind the Cougars at 21-20 but four unanswered points led to the Cougars taking set two for a 2-0 lead.

After the break, the Cougars began the scoring but the Bruins took the lead at point 4 off an ace from Senior libero Jaime Lundstrom, transferring the momentum to the Bruins.

The Bruins battled through the third set to earn the win, 25-19.

The Cougars opened the fourth set with two kills but the Bruins battled back with four unanswered points to tie the set 7-7.

A 3-point lead for the Bruins at 13-10 forced the Cougars to call a timeout. Later in the set, a Bruin 5-point lead forced the Cougars to call their second timeout at 18-13.

After the timeout, the Cougars scored five unanswered points to tie the game 18-18.

The Cougars broke away leading to a match point and the Bruins eventually fell in the fourth set, 25-21.
