The Belmont women’s basketball team earned its tenth straight conference victory against SIU Edwardsville Saturday afternoon in the Curb Event Center.
Belmont had a slow start against the Cougars, scoring just nine points halfway through the first quarter. But the lead — which was consistently held at 20 points later in the game — always belonged to the Bruins.
Belmont’s success in outscoring SIUE was largely thanks to four Bruins — Sally McCabe, Kylee Smith, Darby Maggard and Ellie Harmeyer — tallying points in the double digits.
Harmeyer earned her second double-double in a row, with 12 points and 10 rebounds, while McCabe also grabbed a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Smith also helped the Bruins tremendously by tallying 20 points, while Maggard trailed behind her by only a point.
The huge 86-64 win pushes the team to 10-0 in conference play.
The Bruins will hit the road for a two-week conference stretch, starting the road trip with a matchup against Eastern Kentucky on Thursday, and will return home to face EKU again on Thursday, Feb. 15.
