Women’s basketball falls to Tennessee Tech 77-72

The Belmont women’s basketball team broke its 47-straight conference winning streak Saturday night, losing to Tennessee Tech 77-72 in the Bruins’ second conference matchup of the season.

The Bruins were never able to catch up to the Golden Eagles, who led the entire game largely because of rebounds off of missed shots.

Tennessee Tech went into halftime with a 12-point lead after Jordon Brock hit a buzzer beating 3-pointer to end the half.

The largest determining factor in the game’s outcome was the two teams’ 3-point shooting. Belmont only shot 28 percent from the arch, while Tennessee Tech shot 43 percent.

Despite the loss, senior Darby Maggard and juniors Maura Muensterman and Ellie Harmeyer put up some good numbers.

Muensterman scored 16 and rebounded seven in one of her best performances of the season.

Harmeyer had another excellent game with 22 points and nine rebounds.

Maggard went 3-13 from the 3-point line but still scored 19 points.

The Bruins will look to bounce back against Morehead State on Thursday in the Curb Event Center at 4 p.m..
