The Belmont women’s basketball team lost to Toledo 78-69 on Thursday, despite great performances from junior Ellie Harmeyer and senior Darby Maggard.
Harmeyer scored a career high with 26 points and also had five rebounds. Maggard scored 16 points but only shot 4-11 from the 3-point line.
Redshirt freshman Maddie Cook also had a great game with 10 points.
The Bruins struggled throughout the entire the first half, while Toledo played great defense and shut down Belmont’s 3-point shooting, only allowing them to shoot 10 percent in the first half.
The Bruins found themselves trailing the Rockets 30-25 at halftime.
Belmont was able to tie up the game at 45-45 at the end of the third quarter, giving the team some hope for a comeback. But late fourth quarter defense from Toledo prevented Belmont from catching up.
The Bruins’ next home game will be against Lipscomb in this season’s Battle of the Boulevard on Tuesday at 5 p.m..
