Every time the Belmont women’s basketball team makes a free throw in February, money will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
The team is partnering with the fund through the PLAY4KAY free throw challenge, which raises money to end women’s cancers.
Participants can pledge any dollar amount to donate per free throw made in the month of February. One-time donations are also accepted.
“To be able to raise money for a cause that has affected every single person on our team, whether it’s through a family member or family friend, is really special,” said senior Darby Maggard.
Teams from all 50 states are participating in the PLAY4KAY free throw challenge.
Belmont hopes to raise $5,000 by the end of February, said head coach Bart Brooks.
“We are doing something bigger than basketball,” he said.
