Belmont Women’s basketball team took the Senior-Day win 80-55 against the University of Evansville Sunday afternoon.

Before the game, senior guards Tuti Jones and Blair Schoenwald were honored for their careers as Bruins.

This game is Schoenwald’s last in the Curb Event Center.

Jones and Schoenwald have been a part of Belmont’s last four conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2021 and 2022.

The game started with back-and-forth play, but the Bruins found their rhythm toward the end of the first quarter.

Belmont continued to outscore the Purple Aces in the second quarter, leading 40-24 at half.

The Bruins came out just as strong after the break, scoring 40 points in the second half and only allowing Evansville to score only 31 points.

Junior Tessa Miller led the team with 24 points.

Junior Kendal Cheesman was right behind her with 19 points and 10 rebounds.

“I’m proud of the team, proud of the effort they gave and obviously the win for Blair and Tuti on senior day was special,” said head coach Bart Brooks.

The Bruins play their last two regular season games on the road this week before they head to Moline, Illinois for the 2024 MVC Tournament.

“We have two really big games next week and the league is super tight in terms of standings, so we have no room to mess up or just play around,” said Miller. “We have to show up and play our best basketball moving forward.”
