Women’s soccer takes down Long Island University Brooklyn

An overtime goal by senior Megan Michela helped the Belmont women’s soccer team snag its first win of the season Sunday.

The team beat Long Island University-Brooklyn 2-1.

The Bruins were down 1-0 late in the second half when senior Allie Svoboda tied it up  in the 87th minute.

Neither side could come up with another goal until Michela scored in the match’s second overtime.

The Bruins only played in three matches that went to overtime last season, this was the first for this season.

The Bruins outshot the Blackbirds 24 to 8 and had 12 shots on goal.

The team’s record is currently 1-3-0, and the Bruins will try to get their second win against University of Alabama at Birmingham on Friday at E.S. Rose Park.
