Greekcap: A look back at last semester

Whether you’re talking about the yogurt, the citizens of the economically-recovering country or Belmont’s sororities and fraternities, it’s a good time to be Greek. Belmont’s six Greek organizations are growing exponentially, raising funds to match. And their statistics from last semester prove it. Below are some facts and figures from the fall 2014 semester, including statements from each of the Greek organization’s presidents and awards earned. Fundraising is done primarily

    Water runs thicker than blood

Rivals like Belmont and Lipscomb usually don’t join forces together. But when it’s for a good cause to raise money for organizations such as Blood: Water Mission, it proves sometimes water runs thicker than blood. Both universities are partnering to raise money for Blood: Water Mission in a competitive fundraiser called Battle for the Pump, the first event of its kind. The idea of the contest is to see which school can reach the $5,000 goal first–for an ideal total of $10,000

    Why I went Greek

The issues in Greek life communities have been a hot topic on college campuses in recent years. Hazing is a terrible thing and no person should have to experience any sort of humiliation or uncomfort to prove their worth. The issues of hazing have directly affected the perception of Greek life on college campuses. Just last year the Phi Delta Theta chapter at Belmont University lost its charter on hazing charges. Hazing is one of the most common arguments against going Greek

The 19th annual Disco is Dead? fundraising dance hosted by Alpha Tau Omega was held on Friday, Sept. 21. Previously held in the Curb Cafe, the event moved this year to the front of McWhorter Hall. Belmont band the Aquaducks put on a ’70s set as the night’s house band. All money raised from the event went to ATO’s philanthropy, Blood: Water Mission, a nonprofit that builds wells all over the globe to provide clean water. – Photos by Johnny Lim #ATO #DiscoisDead

ATO and AST teeter-totter for Blood:Water Mission

When walking by the bell tower during the past 48 hours, it was difficult to not notice the large and blocky teeter-totter constantly in use.  A large crowd constantly milling around the contraption, singing and dancing to a mix of new pop and classic 90’s hits, added to the teeter-totter’s appeal. Instead of being used for pure playground fun, the teeter-totter was built by the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity to raise money for Blood:Water Mission, their chosen philanthropy. Alph
