
The Bruins were decimated by Tennessee Tech 16-3 Wednesday night, closing their homestand at E.S Rose Park.
Right-handed pitcher Zane Brown started on the mound for the Bruins. It only took until the third pitch for Tennessee Tech to get some action, with a double by infielder Jackson Rooker.
Brown struck out the next two batters and Tennessee Tech outfielder Jorsixt Jimenez doubled, batting in Rooker to take the 1-0 lead.
Belmont followed up with a three-and-out to close out the first inning.
The Bruins found home plate at the bottom of the second inning with left fielder Blake Barton batting in first basemen Landon Godsey to tie the game 1-1.
At the top of the third, Tennessee Tech footed its way to two runs. Brown threw a wild pitch, bringing a Golden Eagle runner home and catcher Mack Whitcomb batted in a teammate to take the lead 3-1.
The top of the fourth saw Freshman left-handed pitcher Jack Morrisey on the mound for the first time, recording one strikeout in two innings.
In the bottom of the same inning, right fielder Ty Allen singled a ball down to center field, getting Daniel home, bringing the score to 3-2 and closing the inning.
Tennessee Tech bats got hot in the fifth, with four total hits and made the score 6-2.
In the bottom of the fifth, Daniel batted in teammate Kaden Galason, scoring one more run to make the score 6-3.
In the top of the sixth, another freshman took over pitching duties. Left-handed pitcher Krish Gandhi recorded two strikeouts in his first time on the mound.
Tennessee Tech batters did not make it easy for the freshman, getting five hits and five runs in the next two innings.
Right-handed pitcher Caleb Guisewite made his first appearance this season on the mound.
Tennessee Tech did not let up, piling on the 11-3 lead with five more runs to close out the top of the eighth.
In the bottom of the eighth, the Bruins needed to rally to prevent the ten-run mercy rule.
Belmont Infielder Tucker Smith stepped onto the plate and saw four balls thrown past him. He was walked to first base after his teammate infielder Dean Spoto struck out looking.
Catcher Preston Heben grounded out a ball to third base, advancing Smith to second base.
Utility player Jake Maddox struck out, ending the Bruins' fight and their night.
The final score was a 16-3 Belmont loss.
The Bruins now find themselves at a steep 2-11.
The Bruins will travel to Little Rock, Arkansas this weekend to play the Little Rock Trojans in a three-game series.
