Belmont basketball’s JaCobi Wood enters transfer portal, follows Richard

Updated: Apr 22, 2022

Sophomore guard JaCobi Wood announced his entrance into the NCAA transfer portal on Wednesday, making him the second player eyeing a departure this semester.

With five graduating players leaving the team and freshman guard Will Richard also confirming his intent to transfer March 22, Wood’s exit leaves seven vacancies on the Belmont roster.

The Tennessee native announced his intent to leave Belmont in an Instagram statement Wednesday afternoon.

“After hours and hours of prayer and careful consideration with my family, I have decided to enter my name in the transfer portal with three years of eligibility remaining,” Wood wrote.

The NCAA granted all collegiate athletes an extra year of eligibility in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. All five graduating players used the extra year to get their master’s degrees at Belmont.

Wood played in 24 games this season but didn’t start any of them. He averaged 6.9 points and 20 minutes on the floor per game.

“I would also like to thank all of my teammates for the friendships and life-long relationships we have made,” Wood wrote. “You guys will always be my brothers.”
