“David brings a background of winning throughout his distinguished career, all while coaching at institutions with similar academic and athletic profiles to Belmont,” said Belmont Athletic Director Scott Corley in a press release on Thursday.

The new head coach has spent the past two years as associate head coach at Xavier, helping to lead the team to the Big East Championship.

“There are so many great people at Belmont. Throughout this process it was clear that there is a strong commitment from the university to partner with coaches and invest in the lives of student-athletes,” said Costa in the press release.

The Belmont men’s soccer team finished its 2017 season with a record of 4-12-2 and won the opening game of the Southern Conference Tournament against Virginia Military Institute.
