Lonely Biscuits nominated for MTVu’s Woodie Awards

Belmont-based band The Lonely Biscuits have been nominated for a MTVu award that comes with a chance to play at South by Southwest next month.

The group, made up of Grady Weinrich, Sam Gidley, John Paterini and Nick Byrd, are finalists for the first-ever College Artist Woodie, one of MTVu’s annual Woodie Awards. The winner of the contest will open the Woodies Festival at South by Southwest on Sun., March 17.

The four were selected for the competition specifically by MTV officials and are going up against artists from schools such as New York University and Greeneville College.

“It feels awesome to be recognized in that way,” Weinrich said. “It’s an honor and a really good opportunity.”

The band recently released a new EP called “A Girl Named Destiny” which rose to fourth on Billboard’s regional Heat Seekers chart when released last month.

Making it to the annual music festival in Austin, Texas could be a major step for the group, Weinrich said.

“It would mean a ton a great exposure,” he said. “We’d meet a lot of new people.”

The public can unlimitedly vote for The Lonely Biscuits at chevy.mtv.com through March 1.
