Meet the new Bruin: Maddie Wright

Freshman Maddie Wright is eager to play her first year on the Belmont women’s basketball team.

A Tennessee native, Belmont was Wright’s first choice for college. The young athlete made the trip to Nashville from Chattanooga to join a team that she only can describe as “God-centered.”

“There’s nothing like being close with your teammates,” said Wright. “That’s what made Belmont the obvious choice for someone like me.”

Wright’s teammates are also what got her through the transitional period between high school and college.

“Sometimes it’s hard when you’re still learning,” said Wright. “This team helped so much my first month as I was adjusting to practice and the ins and outs of being a college athlete.”

Wright, a nursing major, plays forward for the Bruins. After hitting her goal of 1,000 rebounds during her high school career, she is excited to see how she improves as a Belmont athlete.

“I’ve always gotten thrill from playing sports. Basketball has been something I have loved to do,” said Wright. “

After an OVC championship last season, Wright is hopeful to share another victory during her collegiate career and confident in this year’s team.
