Meet the new Bruin: Michael Benkert

Freshman guard Michael Benkert came to Belmont because he experienced a “great family feel,” and it’s what he calls an ideal distance from his home in Greenwood, Indiana.

Benkert is the oldest of seven siblings, and while he took up basketball, his brothers and sisters took more of an interest in music.

“There’s never a dull moment at my house. It’s always loud and noisy,” said Benkert.

While Benkert’s family is larger than average, its size isn’t the only special thing about it.

“I’m adopted, and all my brothers and sisters are adopted which is something I think is pretty cool,” said Benkert.

You can spot Benkert with his basketball family sporting jersey No. 24 when the Bruins host Western Kentucky on Nov. 18.
