Crunch time is about to begin.

The Belmont basketball season kicks off on Monday with both the men’s and women’s basketball teams.

To get students ready for game day, Belmont Athletics and the Student Activities Programming Board hosted a pep rally in the Curb Event Center Thursday.

With a rambunctious crowd and a bustling basketball court featuring Bruiser, Belmont Cheer, the Belmont MOB and the student pep band, the pep rally hosted a variety of events to raise school spirit going into the new season for both teams.

Students flowed into the center filing into the student section of the stands.

Battle of the Boulevard seemed to come early. After initial performances, the leaders of the rally mimicked the start of a game and had everyone turn around and boo at the “Lipscomb University Basketball Team” as it came in white T-shirts with purple Ls on the front.

This led to the introductions for both the women’s and men’s teams as they excitedly jumped through two rows of cheerleaders before throwing T-shirts into the stands.

There was even an event for the students to get involved as a game of knockout was played to decide which student would get a chance at the coveted half court shot during half time of the first home game against Georgia State University.

This led to the closeout tradition of playing “Happy Together” over the speakers as the crowd linked arms and swayed to the song.
